Well Stanley Jordan's Touch of Blue dates back to 1979

well, that may be true in a lot of cases, but a certain pianist named Glenn Gould had a large hand in popularizing the style, manner and tempo at which Fulara and Kim play the the Goldbergs (Gould was still fresh in the minds of many academics when Fulara was studying piano and Bach - this at a very young age, he's now 30); Kim even puts Glenn's name in the tags. Without at least one pianists efforts at popularizing the study of such a great composer, who knows if these guys would be doing this.

I made no comment on Malmsteen's skill, which isn't something that's gotten better over the years. I simply meant that he's one who loves Bach and plays Bach with great speed because he can, and because Bach is a great way to show off your finger dexterity/temporal precision, especially on the fretboard and keyboard. Regardless, musicians have done this kind of thing for centuries, e.g. the "toccata" was invented for showing off finger skills, being derived from the old italian meaning "touch".
