the song is not really about love..it's just about life..from adam duritz.." It's a song about looking back on your life and seeing changes happening, and for once for me, looking forward and thinking, ya know, things are gonna change for the better - 'maybe this year will be better than the last' - and so, like a lot of songs on the end of an album it's not about everything turning out great, but it at least it is about hope... and the possibilities..." I know what you mean man. I'm thinking about finding a new love now :)

I know man... It's just in the past whenever I heard this song I've viewed it as a slighly depressing song, but here lately it's been anything but that... was just wondering if other people saw it in that same way

Gee man, stop your analysis now! It's about love, okey? It's a poem...

just for a little more info on this... Hollywood and California are places he associates with love, first chorus, he is hoping his old love will forgive him and come back. 2nd Chorus, "If you think you might come to california, I think you should" again, cali symbolizes love for him here... if she thinks she might be able to love him, he thinks that it's a good idea"3rd chorus: after reflecting on love he says maybe he should go see the oceans in cali, that maybe he's ready for love again.

For the longest time I thought this was purely a breakup song, but now I realize it's a song about finding new love, and it makes so much more sense. In the beginning, he says that time goes by so fast now that she's gone. So what would make this time slow back down, finding someone new, someone who can slow time back down.1st verse: wanting girl a back2nd verse: finding a new girl, hoping shell like him3rd & 4th verse: reflecting on past and realizing maybe he's ready to fall in love again

"All at once you look across a crowded roomTo see the way that light attaches to a girl"A truly ingenious lyric. This song is magnificent. I saw these guys in a bar in Birmingham, AL before they made it big. I was instantly a fan and still appreciate the heck out of them today.
