Dishnetwork has new hd dvrs that you can hook external usb hard drives up to 750gb, and also have a portable player you can upload your recordings to and wach them on the go, and the base code for these new receivers is linux... the possibilities

As Chris said it depends, however if a DVR is able to transfer files to a Computer thats what makes it the best DVR in the world.

I have DVR (Comcast), It isn't half bad. I also have this new HD Sony TV that came out, it is really good.
